Wye residents rally round
An elderly lady went for a short walk to the Co-op for milk, but on the way she fell and injured herself. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the narrow junction of Church Street and Bridge Street. Within minutes off-duty medics attended the 92 year old Wye resident, until an ambulance arrived to take her to the William Harvey A&E with a suspected broken leg. Wye Coffee Shop staff, neighbours and passers-by all assisted by providing blankets, coats and umbrellas. A passing driver parked his car to shield the lady from other vehicles while waiting for the ambulance.
Although it was fortunate and reassuring that several off-duty health professionals, first-aiders and public spirited people happened to be close to the scene, the ambulance took about 45 minutes to reach Wye.
