Armed police officers deployed in Wye

Yesterday afternoon armed police officers, supported by a helicopter searched Wye for two men reported to be carrying a suspected weapon near Churchfield Way. The weapon turned out to be a BB gun. Kent Police confiscated the gun, but did not arrest the men. BB guns may, or may not be classed as firearms, so they may or may not be prohibited. However, this incident is a warning that 'the police treat all calls involving a firearm as if it is a genuine firearm.' Ask the Police Therefore anyone carrying an imitation firearm around could suddenly find themselves surrounded by firearms officers aiming real weapons at them. The Firearms Act 1968 states that 'an imitation firearm is anything which has the appearance of being a firearm, regardless of whether or not it is capable of discharging a shot, bullet or another missile.' Appearances matter.
