Hinxhill Road closed for five weeks
The road closure order for Hinxhill Road, starts Monday 6th January. The Kent County Council Highways (prohibition of driving) order states that 'Hinxhill Road will be closed in the general vicinity of the rear entrance to William Harvey Hospital. The closure is planned from Monday 6 January 2020 for an estimated period of up to 5 weeks. The alternative route for all through traffic is via The Street, A2070 Kennington Road, Willesborough Road, Spearpoint Corner, A28 Canterbury Road, Harville Road, Bridge Street, Churchfield Way, High Street, Upper Bridge Street, Oxenturn Road and Naccolt Road back to Hinxhill Road.' This road closure starts on the first day of the new school term, and means a detour of some nine miles.
The closure of Hinxhill Road near to the back entrance to the William Harvey Hospital is necessary to enable construction of a new bellmouth junction to the Hinxhill Park housing development, install services and drainage. KCC also states that 'due to the nature of these works, the restrictions will need to remain in force at all times.' During the road closure period there will be further works for up to one week around Lacton Green, near the Blacksmiths Arms, Willesborough.
KCC Highways cautions that the road closure order may be extended if works over-run, for reasons such as adverse weather conditions or engineering difficulties. For the most up to date situation please check the one.network website here.
KCC Highways has also permitted four additional traffic light controls on the diversion route this coming week, on Wye level crossing, Churchfield Way, Kempes Corner and the A28. BT will have further traffic controls between the Harville Road and Bramble Lane junctions on the A28. These are all relatively minor works, but may add to journey times. The KCC Highway Helpline phone number is 03000 418181.
At some point in the future, KCC Highways will close access to The Street from Hinxhill Road permanently, and divert all traffic via the new road through the Hinxhill Park housing development to a new junction on the A20.
