Operation Stack: 'avoid travelling to Kent' says Highways England
Highways England is strongly advising all drivers – including all hauliers – to avoid travelling to Kent until further notice. This is due to severe cross-channel disruption. Given the continued arrival of goods traffic into Kent, Kent Police has activated Operation Stack. This is necessary to manage freight traffic, with both the coastbound and London-bound M20 now being used to stack lorries until the disruption eases. Consequently the M20 is effectively closed in both directions between J8 for Maidstone East and J9 for Ashford, with diversions via the A20. HGVs are also being stacked between junctions 8 and 11 on the coastbound carriageways of the M20.
For the latest information please see @highwaysSEAST and updates on the M20 junction 8 to 9 moveable barrier web page.
