Working for Wye - past, present and future

No trains this week between Maidstone East and Ashford

Notice of line closure Maidstone East and Ashford 7th to 15th August 2021

Network Rail has closed the line between Maidstone East and Ashford International from Saturday 7th August to Sunday 15th August inclusive. Consequently, there are no train services at Bearsted, Hollingbourne, Harrietsham, Lenham or Charing stations. Instead buses are replacing trains between Maidstone East and Ashford International. The line closure will allow engineers to reinforce the Bearsted cutting with over 2,000 soil nails to prevent further landslips. Network Rail is taking advantage of the line closure to bring forward drainage improvement and signalling works on this section of the line. Southeastern has details of timetable changes, alternative routes via HS1 and other travel options for the duration of the Bearsted embankment works.

Heavy rain on New Year's Day 2021 caused the latest landslip at Bearsted, and increasingly frequent extreme weather events like this are having a significant impact on Victorian embankments across the railway network.
