The Five Church Walk is back, Monday 2nd May
Deep in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty walkers are striding out today and enjoying the spring. This year the 16-mile walk is anti-clockwise, and as usual the route takes in the parish churches of Godmersham, Chilham, Molash, Challock and All Saints, Boughton Aluph. Part of the signed route passes through Kings Wood, and the bluebells are at their best about now.

Planned road closures today and tomorrow
KCC Highways has issued a notice to close a section of the A28 today. This is to enable Network Rail to remove a hazardous trackside tree. The closed section is between Branch Road and The Beeches Chilham where the track runs in a cutting adjacent to the A28. The diversion route is via Challock on the A251 and A252. Ashford to Canterbury line to close for four days
Network Rail is preparing to replace its bridge over the River Stour at Chartham. The main heavy engineering work is scheduled over the bank holiday weekend to minimise disruption. Consequently, no trains will run between Ashford International and Canterbury West for four days. Wye Station will close Sunday 11th April
While planned engineering work takes place on the lines between Ashford International and Minster on Sunday 11th April 2021, buses will replace the Southeastern train services. The Network Rail notice confirms that works will require the closure of both lines between Ashford International and Ramsgate via Canterbury West. Disruption affects Wye and three rail lines into Ashford
Following a day of heavy rain on Thursday two landslips near #Bearsted on Friday afternoon closed the Maidstone East to Ashford line. Consequently, train services to and from Wye are still disrupted. Five high voltage overhead line faults cause power cuts around Wye
Wild weather associated with Storm Ciara is causing widespread damage and disruption to the electricity supply network across the country. Power cuts affected over half a million homes on Sunday. In the Wye area UK Power Networks is dealing with five faults involving high voltage overhead electricity lines. No trains through Wye for the next five days
Southeastern will not run any trains across the region on Christmas Day, or Boxing Day. However, planned engineering work at Ashford station, starting Friday 27th December through to Sunday 29th December, will continue to affect the Ashford to Canterbury line. Police appeal for witnesses after fatal crash at Chilham
Kent Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash on the A252 at Dane Street, near Chilham.
For no apparent reason a red Renault Kadjar left the road and collided with a tree at 15.36 on Friday 10th March. The passenger, Paul Hardisty a 49-year-old local man and Chilham parish councillor died at the scene. The driver received minor injuries.

A28 closed again tonight at Chilham
KCC Highways will close the A28 again at Chilham, on Monday 19th September to complete resurfacing works. A Temporary Order to prohibit overnight through traffic will apply from 22.00 until 05.00 Tuesday. The works are between the A252 Maidstone Road and the A28 Canterbury Road and the junction with Bagham Lane.
